The Runaways were formed in 1982 with Tim Adams on rhythm guitar, Gary Bryant (GB) on lead guitar and then Ivan Thurlow on drums and still 35 years on with the new member Cliff Skinner playing on bass guitar completes The Runaways line up respectively.
Since reforming, The Runaways have been committed to producing a quality performance and are particularly renowned for their authentic representation of music from The Shadows, including the choreography!
In the 1980’s and 90’s the Runaways worked alongside famous names in the world of entertainment and as the backing band to original singing stars of the fifties and sixties. They also appeared as special guests on BBC radio and have made appearances on London Weekend Television and Sky TV. Most recently on BBC radio Essex and the James Whale web based radio show.
After receiving excellent reviews in various magazines, The Runaways signed a record deal with Polydor to release a CD in Japan. They have since recorded albums for Sweden and in Europe and their music is distributed to other countries. The Runaways' album "Into the Vortex" is still available and is being sold at the venues where the guys play and can be purchased on either as single tracks or you can buy the whole album! The album consists of well-known tunes and vocal numbers played in an instrumental Shadowsesque style!
The Runaways continue to produce the highest quality sound and still rehearse routinely to perfect regular numbers and learn new ones to extend their repertoire. They also pay attention to the visual aspects of their performances and are always immaculate in their smart suits and memorable for their striking bright red guitars and those famous ‘walks’!
Audiences are amazed by the range of sounds the band produces using guitar synthesizers, finding it hard to believe that performances are completely live without the use of backing tracks as they switch effortlessly from the sound of the clarinet to a piano to strings!
